Students in the middle grades are participating in a class that is using the Jack and the Beanstalk story to explore underlying principles of our system of justice related to fairness and honesty.
Students are engaging in activities that encourage their own opinions about fairness and then in class discussions children are exposed to views of others. Many of the activities have no right or wrong answers.
As we finish up the story, students are preparing to act out a trial where the giant and his wife are suing Jack and his mother for stealing from them. Teams of students are creating scripts and one student will be the judge. All of the students in the school will participate in the trial and help decide if Jack is guilty or not.
