Adam Sudan visited The New School on Tuesday, November 20 to share with our students how he is making the world a better place. First Adam shared with our students bowls of unique spices and smells, and he told the stories behind spices and flavorings such as saffron, star anise, cardamom pods, hibiscus petals, rosewater and fish sauce. Adam then shared how he reaches out to our refugee and new American communities for opportunities to share their culture, and perspective over a delicious meal. Food has become the universal language in Syracuse’s diverse community.
Adam’s “My Lucky Tummy, a pop-up dinner event, gathers the city’s best home cooks to make a meal together; some of the courses included banana flower, bamboo, chayote, and prawns wrapped in banana leaves from Burma, Chaat Papri from Pakistan, and the sweet cheese Syrian dessert, Halawat el Jibn. and thanks to a few resilient families, some of the best meals from around the world can be found in one place.”
Adam is also the founder of With Love, a restaurant at 435 N. Salina St. in Syracuse. This teaching restaurant, run by Onondaga Community College, changes its cuisine, and name twice a year. Currently they are cooking the food from Palestine.
