At the end of October students in grades 38 visited Artrage Gallery to see a wonderful exhibit, HELEN ZUGHAIB: Stories My Father Told Me. The artist created 25 paintings that “correspond to one of her father’s stories about his childhood in Damascus and young adulthood in Lebanon. The stories about traditions of village life, morals and finally stories about the major events in his young life that ultimately led him to immigrate to America in 1946.” We assigned each child to talk to a family member: mother. father or grandparent to hear a story that they can document in writing. At school the children worked n their stories and will be creating a piece of art that corresponds to the story they heard.
