Breathing Room Book Club

This year I taught a book club on the book the Breathing Room. I taught the book club to Ace, Jonas, Juliette, Maia and Jake. They are in 6^th grade. The Breathing Room is about a girl named Evvy who is sent to a sanatorium when her family finds out she has tuberculosis. The author takes you on a journey through Evvy’s struggle and friendship at the sanatorium. During this book club the children were very involved and payed close attention to all the small details. It was fun and interesting to hear all the different opinions and ideas. Instead of having questions for them to answer outside of class, I had them read an assigned number of pages and then come to class ready to answer the questions in class. I felt like it was easier for them to answer the questions in class when they could show their emotions instead of having to write them down on paper. They definitely showed their emotions greatly when there was a strong topic to talk about. It was so nice to see them become so involved.
