Cornell Museum of Ornithology
The whole school spent the day in Ithaca at Cornell’s amazing Museum of Ornithology. What a treat. The original reason for going was to view the extraordinary mural that is painted on one of the walls – it shows life-sized paintings of birds from every continent. But there was so much more…. There was a sound room where we could listen and learn about the sounds of birds and other animals; there was an activity set up where children could learn about the different types of beaks and how the design of each type of beak relates to the food they eat; we were given a tour of the educational facility and saw the most amazing skeletons and specimens; we briefly walked the trails and observed many birds nesting, The staff of the museum were welcoming and helpful. The field trip was so well worth the drive.
