Students in fourth and fifth grade have been learning about fractions over the past five weeks. Throughout these five weeks students have learned how to make equivalent fractions, simplify fractions, compare fractions, and order fractions. Throughout the unit the students have reviewed and learned some new math vocabulary. Some of the new vocabulary that the students have learned was equivalent fraction, greatest common factor, and simplest form. During the unit the students did a lot of hands-on activities that related to the topic that they were studying. One of the activities that the students completed during their ordering fractions class was taking fractions that were written on small pieces of paper and order them from greatest to least and least to greatest on a larger piece of paper that had a number line on it. Once the students thought that they had their fractions in the correct order they then took them and taped them to the larger piece of paper with the number line on it. Throughout the entire unit the students have really enjoyed learning about fractions through all the different hand-on activities.
