Kate Woodle conducted a four-week, illustration workshop for the seven oldest students. Kate kicked off her workshop as a Mystery Guest for the whole school, where she described the process of illustrating a children’s picture book.
To the smaller class, students had to bring a fictional story they had written. Kate showed them how to create a storyboard, which meant dividing their text into 16 double page spreads, leaving room for type. In the following classes children took one of their pages and created a finished piece of art.
Kate was the graphic artist for the Burnet Park Zoo for almost 20 years. She was the builder for the penguin habitat and other animal spaces. She also spear-headed active volunteer participation in the gardens and green spaces at the zoo encouraging the plantings of native species local to our area.
