Over the last few months the Kindergarten students explored counting, coins (pennies, nickels and dimes), measurement using standard units, and adding and subtracting using games and their workbooks.
- Students compared lengths of object using a ruler. They used a balance where they compared the weight of various objects using non standard and standard units.
- For their study of coins, children looked at both sides of the coins using a magnifying glass. They recorded what they saw and discussed what was on each coin. This will help them distinguish between a penny and a nickel, a nickel and a dime. To further practice recognizing and counting the value of coins they played Spooky Old Tree, where they earned pennies and had to trade them in for nickels. They also played the Money Game and Money Bingo.
- Students worked on adding and subtracting by playing games such as Tens Go Fish, Counters in a Cup. More recently they are playing games, which involve 2 digit numbers.
