The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are taking part in Pixie class. Pixie is a philosophical reading program. We read the story of a girl named Pixie, very s-l-o-w-l-y. We stop very often to analyze Pixie and what she means when she says things like “but do I belong to my body in the same way that my body belongs to me?”

In our most recent class we discussed empathy…what it is and how one learns to be empathetic. The students shared that empathy is having the same feelings as others, it is being nice, gentle or caring, it is understanding others feelings and that different people will be empathetic in different ways because they have had different experiences.
