In class, we grew a bean plant from seed in dirt and a potato plant from a potato using water initially. We have recently planted the potato plant and its roots into a soil bag and will look for potatoes at the end of school. We collected seeds in the woods and talked about the various ways they travel. We planted spider plant pups from a mother plant that the children have been watering and monitoring their growth and took home. We dissected various plants and plant parts in class. We studied flowers and made a flower poster on the parts of a flower. We took apart the various parts of a lily flower and looked at the parts of a daisy under a microscope. We watched a Magic School Bus video on how plants make food. We made compost that we continue to monitor.
