In our seeds class the students were able to examine multiple different types of seeds. They looked at both dry and wet lima and kidney bean seeds. We first examined what the outside looked and felt like then the students were able to cut the seeds open and examine the insides so that they could see and learn about embryos. When examining the inside of the seeds the students were able to learn about different parts of a seed and see all these parts up close. Students were also able to plant their own seed plants in ziplock bags using only wet paper towels to help the seeds grow. We then examined these growing plants over a period of over a week to watch how the plants slowly change. Unfortunately, some students’ plants grew more than others, but this gave us the opportunity to talk about what the students thought plants needed to grow and live. The students then had the opportunity to paint their plants and what they imagined their plants would have looked like fully grown.
