Students enjoyed four activities that explored friction, kinetic and potential energy and how energy is transferred. In each experiment students considered a key question and after setting up an experiment they collected data. The data was graphed and analyzed.
- In Fiction Fun they considered what affects the force of friction. Here students set up an experiment where they dragged weights over two different pieces of sandpaper, measuring the resistance.
- In Pinwheel Power they considered how the initial potential energy of a weight affects the final potential energy of a piece of paper. Or how potential energy will change to kinetic and then add kinetic energy to something else.
- In Go Nuts! They considered how the length of a pendulum affects its swing and transfer of energy. Here students compared the swings of different pendulum lengths and watched as one pendulum transferred energy to another!
- In Straw Rockets they considered how the bounce height of a ball changes with the height from which it is dropped.
