A small group of the oldest students have been participating in Take Apart, a science class connected to the Electromagnetism and Invention classes. Before the “taking apart” happened, the students drew predictions of what parts would be on the inside of their objects, discussed what these parts could be used for and how they worked. In pairs, the students began taking apart a CD player, a dust buster and a toaster. As they worked, each pair took notes on what parts they were discovering…capacitors, resistors, circuit boards, motors, insulators, copper wire coils and more. Each pair then created museum displays of their objects, labeling each piece for other students to observe. Each student will be choosing one piece from their object to create their own invention with, describing what that piece will be used for and how it will work in their invention.
