A small group of students read Twister on Tuesday, a Magic Tree House book about twisters. The book club focused reading skills such as comprehension, compare and contrast, summarizing, predictions, moods of pictures and text, and relating character traits to yourself. They also worked on vocabulary, and literary elements. The students were assigned chapters of the book to read during silent reading time and were charged to find a word in the text they wanted to discuss. This could be a word they had trouble decoding or they did not know its meaning. The students looked forward to sharing their words every class. As a culminating activity children made their very own twisters in a bottle!
