Jiyong, Stuart, Pearson, Theo and Paul were part of a class called Writing Skills. In this class they were introduced to and/or reviewed various aspects of writing and grammar. We have discussed the sentence, subjects, nouns, pronouns articles, singular and plural, predicates, verbs and tense. Typically there is a mini lesson at the start of each class, and then time is allowed for children to practice each new skill. Since moving to distance learning, children learned about compound sentences, and how sentences can be expanded by telling why, and when. Children had a lot of practice writing paragraphs, and we ended the unit with writing persuasion paragraphs, how to use words to convince somebody to do something. For this year-long unit we used Diana Hanbury King’s Writing Skills workbook.
