Maryrose, a student teacher from SUNY Cortland, had the opportunity to take over an author study during snack time. She chose to have the students listen to books by the author Jane Yolen and her books titled “How does a Dinosaur….” Maryrose’s objective for the author study was for students to make observations about the book and what themes (lessons) they’ve learned when finishing the book. Every student was engaged with a different kind of book and making connections with their everyday lives. An example of this is when Maryrose read “How Does a Dinosaur Stay Safe” students where sharing how to stay safe when crossing the road. One student said to look both ways before crossing the street. The students enjoyed reading the Jane Yelon dinosaur books. During silent reading, a couple of students were rereading the stories (ex. How Does a Dinosaur Go to School?).
